KOCHI: Arrangements for counting the votes cast in the local body polls in Ernakulam district have been finalised at the counting centres as well as at the Collectorate at Kakkanad. The counting will start at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. The results of the elections to the Aluva municipality is expected to be announced first, by about 9.30 a.m., according to District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, who is the District Electoral Officer. The counting centre for the Kochi Corporation polls is Maharaja's College Centenary Auditorium. The results of the corporation elections are expected by 10 a.m. The counting centres are located at the distribution and receipt centres of ballot papers, except in the case of Aluva Municipality, where the municipal office was the distribution office and the counting centre is the Government Girls' Higher Secondary School, Aluva. The counting centres for the other municipalities are as follows: Tripunithura: Government Sanskrit College; Muvattupuzha: Municipal Office; Kothamangalam: Government Town Upper Primary School; Perumbavoor: Municipal Library Hall; Kalamassery: Municipal Council Hall; North Paravur: Government Boys' Higher Secondary School, Paravur; and Angamaly: Municipal Council Hall.
The counting centres for the district, block and grama panchayats are at the block levels.
Since paper ballots of three colours had been used for polling to the three-tier panchayats, their sorting is necessary before counting.
The three ballot papers will be separated and made into bundles of 50 each before counting. This process is expected to take some time, which may delay the grama panchayat election results.
The results of the block and grama panchayats will be declared at the respective centres by the retuning officers. The results of the district panchayat election from the different counting centres will be compiled at the Collectorate and the final results declared by the Collector.
The postal ballots for the district panchayat polls will be counted at the Collectorate under the supervision of the Collector.
Results of the grama panchayat elections are expected to come in from noon. The block panchayat results will be available by the evening. The district panchayat results will be the last to be declared, between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m.
All the counting centres have been linked by computer to the Collectorate as well as to the State Election Commission Office in Thiruvananthapuram under the supervision of the National Informatics Centre. The results from the respective centres will be first sent to the commission's office, from where they will be redirected to the Collectorate.
The authorities concerned said facilities have been provided for informing the public and the media about the results at the media centre at the Collectorate.
