THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Director of Health Services (DHS) B. Mahilamani has issued orders suspending two doctors in the Health Services for working in private hospitals after taking piecemeal leave from Government service. The DHS said G. Ajayan, neurosurgeon, and P. Manoj, neurophysician, both of whom were serving at General Hospital (GH), have been placed under suspension with immediate effect, pending disciplinary action, after they were found to be working in private hospitals without sanction from the Government. Both the doctors had been posted to the GH as part of the Government's efforts to establish a superspecialty wing in neurology and neurosurgery at the hospital. The out-patient services in both the wings at the GH had not been functioning since the past few months after the doctors went on leave. The suspension was ordered following the reports of the District Medical Officer at Alappuzha and the Additional DHS (Vigilance), who made surprise visits to the private hospitals where the doctors are currently working. The DHS also pointed out that one of the doctors got admission for the MCH course on the basis of service quota.
