Have you decided upon the right dress for Saturday night? Ghagra cholis, churna cholis and bandini dupattas are in great demand, for Navarathri is just around the corner. And with it the annual Dandiya Nite. It is time to brush up those dance steps. For the fifth year in a row, the Rotary Club of Pondicherry Central will organise the Dandiya Nite at the Subhalakshmi Mahal on October 1. Though the event will be held for only one night and not nine as in north India, regulars are looking forward to it. The organisers are bringing in the Rangeela music troupe from Chennai, which will play popular Gujarati and other dandiya numbers. The club is trying to install a better sound and light system. "This year, we expect around 1,500 people. Since not all of them would like to dance, we are organising games for the non-dancing crowd. We also have food stalls in the basement. Last year, we had about 1,200 persons attending the programme," said Harshvardhan Saroagi, chairman, and Kailash Porwal, co-chairman, organising committee, Dandiya Nite. Entry to Saturday's programme is restricted to those having passes. For passes, contact 98430-77296 or 94433-35818.
