Dolls and more, for Kolu

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The time of year has come for colourful dolls to reappear at homes across the city. For all those on a shopping spree to decorate their `Kolu', SIPA is offering a wide choice to add to their collection.

Inaugurated by R. Nataraj, Police Commissioner, Greater Chennai, on Friday, the exhibition features dolls of different sizes and shapes and made of materials such as wood, clay, papier mache and glass stone. Craftsmen from the southern States are participating in the expo, which aims to bridge the gap between artisans and consumers. Besides the kolu collection, the expo also features products such as sandalwood carvings, rosewood inlay work and woodcarvings. Home decors such as batik wall hangings, handloom furnishings and toiletries, wrought iron lamp stands and kalamkari furnishings would also be available.

Palm leaf basketwork, terracotta products, fancy candles and frosted glassware would also be on display. The exhibition is on till October 12 at Craftslink, 70, Kodambakkam High Road. Ph: 2825 7544/45.
