Memorials coming up for Adithanar, Ariyakudi Ramanuja Aiyangar

A similar gesture for Ariyakudi Ramanuja Aiyangar

CHENNAI: The home of the late S. P. Adithanar at Srivaikuntam in Tuticorin district will be made a memorial, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa informed the Assembly on Tuesday.

The late leader, who established the Tamil newspaper, Daily Thanthi, had served as Minister and Speaker.

Making a statement on the occasion of his birth anniversary, Ms. Jayalalithaa said the Government would take steps for setting up a digital library at the home.

She received representations from several quarters, including Congress deputy floor leader D. Yasodha and Pattali Makkal Katchi president G.K. Mani.

The Congress, the PMK, and the Bharatiya Janata Party welcomed the announcement.

Responding to the request of H. Raja of the BJP, the Chief Minister said the home of the doyen of Carnatic music, Ariyakudi Ramanuja Aiyangar, at Karaikudi would be made a memorial.

V. Sivapunniyam urged the Government to buy the copyright of the works of the late Communist leader, P. Jeevanandham, besides providing relief to his family.
