MYSORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) will not project a chief ministerial candidate when elections are held to the State Assembly, Working President of Janata Dal (S) H.D. Kumaraswamy said here on Tuesday. Participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Mysore District Journalists' Association, Mr. Kumaraswamy said MLAs of the party will choose the Chief Minister after the results are announced. He was responding to a query on whether the party would project him [Mr. Kumaraswamy] as the next Chief Minister. He said the prospects of the Janata Dal (S) will not suffer if the party goes to the polls without projecting a chief ministerial candidate. He said the party has emerged as a stronger political force without any tussle for leadership within the party after the ouster of the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. When asked how many seats the party is expecting to win, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the party is confident of securing a two-thirds majority. Mr. Kumaraswamy used the forum to lash out at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President M. Mallikarjun Kharge for giving "unsolicited advice" to the Janata Dal (S). He said the Congress, despite having a simple majority during the previous Assembly term, had weaned away several legislators from the Opposition. Hunsur MLA G.T. Deve Gowda and HD Kote MLA M.P. Venkatesh were present.
