MYSORE: Even though the State Government rejected the Mysore City Corporation's proposal to augment water supply by implementing the Melapura 2nd Stage project, the corporation and the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) have decided to fund the project.

Speaking to presspersons here on Monday, Minister of State for Labour Tanveer Sait said the Rs. 12.67-crore project to draw an additional 11 million gallons of water a day (MGD) will be implemented by securing funds from local bodies.

While the MCC will spend Rs. 8 crores, MUDA has decided to contribute Rs. 4 crores. He also said that the project will be launched soon after Dasara.

Mr. Sait said there has been a marked improvement in the water supply situation in Mysore following a meeting with officials.

He said that MUDA is spending around Rs. 1.30 crore to meet the water requirements of residents living in layouts developed by it. He also said that a sum of Rs. 6 crores had been set aside as MUDA's share in the Rs. 45-crore Kabini water project.

Mr. Tanveer Sait also said that nearly one lakh applications had been received for over 7,000 residential sites to be allotted by Mysore Urban Development Authority.

Of this, around 60 per cent were first time applicants.

Stating that MUDA proposes to form seven new layouts, Mr. Sait said that work to provide amenities at Vasanthnagar will start in two months and be completed within 14 months.

Mr. Sait added that development works at Shantaveri Gopal Gowda Layout and Lalithadri Layout have started and estimates have been prepared for work on Ravindranath Tagore Layout.

Earlier, the Minister chaired a review meeting of projects that are being implemented by MUDA.

The in-charge commissioner of MUDA H. S. Ashokananda and Deputy Commissioner S. Selvakumar attended the meet.
