Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Carnatic musicians D.K. Pattammal and T.N. Seshagopalan were honoured with the titles, "Sivan Isai Selvi" and "Sivan Isai Selvan", by the Papanasam Sivan Rasikar Sangam Sangam here on Monday.

The honours were given away at a function organised to mark the late Sivan's birth anniversary.

Papanasam Sivan, who won renown as a composer of devotional music, mostly on Lord Siva, "could even be called the 64th Nayanmar," said K. Krishnaswami, president of the Sangam.

"Papanasam Sivan's life was the golden era of Tamil cinema," said Nalli Kuppuswamy Chetty.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Chairman K.S. Bakthavatsalam, felicitated Madurai T.N. Seshagopalan and D.K. Pattamal for popularising Tamil songs.

The latter was unable to attend the function.

A book entitled "Thriuvarur Pancharatnam" by Rukmini Ramani was also released.
