Mature analysis

The editorial, `The Left sweeps Kerala grassroots' (Sept. 29), was a mature assessment of the verdict in the State's local body elections. That one man's disgruntlement over political power sharing at the State level can effectively make a democratically elected government unpopular has again been demonstrated. The Left too will be well advised to steer clear of alliances proffered by greedy factions when it comes to power-sharing at the State level.

It is a shame that Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and the State Congress chief have claimed that the UDF's performance in the local body polls is an improvement on the alliance's show in the 2004 Parliament elections. The comparisons should be with the last local body elections.

V. Balakrishnan Nair,
