Trial of Orhan Pamuk

In the editorial, `The trial of Orhan Pamuk' (Sept. 28), you have rightly said that the Turkish military must realise its own cause and the cause of modernity and secularism would be impaired if it prosecutes Mr. Pamuk. In this regard the Turkish establishment may heed the sane advice of Franz Kafka: "I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us."
