On `pedalling' tour

This is a historical trip on "pedals". Delhiites are finally going to get a taste of the world outside their rolled-up car windows and ride without air-conditioning for once and for a heritage cause at the first ever Delhi Bicycle Heritage Tour.

Organised by Firefox Bikes Private Limited in association with the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Programme (TRIPP)-IIT and Interface for Cycling Expertise (I-CE), an organisation from Holland, the Delhi Bicycle Heritage Tour will be flagged off by Delhi Transport and Power Minister Haroon Yusuf from Boat Club this coming Sunday. Bringing together 16 different countries, the Tour is not only about focusing attention on the old but also highlighting the need of urban society for a clean healthy life and fresh air. The cyclists will go from Boat Club on Rajpath past India Gate to Purana Qilla for a bit of a halt and then proceed to Humayun's Tomb, Safdarjung Tomb to finally culminate at Vishwa Yuva Kendra. Committed young "desi" parliamentarians like Naveen Jindal are expected to join in the pedalling exercise. The Ambassador of Switzerland in New Delhi, Dominique Dreyer, and the Ambassador of Holland, E.F. Ch. Niehe, are also expected to cycle for the cause. -- Mandira Nayar
