Chambers criticise strike

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Industry bodies on Thursday voiced their opposition to the nationwide strike saying that it was totally uncalled for. The strikes are harmful for the country as they have short-term and long-term implications for its economy.

Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) President Mahendra K. Sanghi described the strike uncalled for particularly at times when Indian economy was getting widely integrated with that of global economy.

He said such strikes always amounted to great stumbling blocks and large barriers towards the economic progress of India and therefore suggested that the UPA Government should not only go on pursuing its disinvestment policies but also strive hard to bring about rationalisation in its labour policies which were user friendly and conducive to present days economic realities.
