Invitation regatta and selection trials

HYDERABAD: The National Hobie Class Association (NHCA) and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) will under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India (YAI) conduct an invitation regatta cum selection trials at Rushikonda, near Visakhapatnam,from October 23 to 28.

NHCA Secretary, Lt. Col. Nasser Hussain Dubey, told The Hindu that the top eight teams of the Nationals held at the same venue in May would compete. The top two teams, with weightage given to performance in the Nationals and the above event, would represent India at the Asian sailing championships at Doha, Qatar in January 2006 and in November next year at the Asian Games, also at the same venue. The above class would be a medal event in the Asiad, he said.

A total of nine races will be held, of which completion of seven is mandatory and two may be discarded. The low point scoring system will be used. Entries, accompanied by charter and damage deposit fees of Rs. 4000 and 1000 respectively, per application, must reach the National Hobie Class Association, c/o Artillery Water Sports Association, Water Sports Cell, Artillery Centre, Ibrahim Bagh, Golconda, Hyderabad-500031 by October 15.
