PONDICHERRY: General secretary of the Pondicherry State unit of the All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) V.S. Abishegam, has called upon the Centre to drop its `anti-labour policies'. Mr. Abishegam who was among a batch of workers of the textile labour union who were arrested at a mill earlier on Thursday when a day-long strike called by trade unions was observed also said in a release later the strike observed here was a success. He said that the workers had shown their protest against the anti-labour policies of the Centre and hence the Government should drop them immediately in the larger interests of the welfare of the workers. He also appealed to the Pondicherry Administration to present before the Centre the depth of displeasure of the workers against the Centre's policies, as projected through the strike.
