Meet on bicentenary celebrations of Vellore Mutiny

"Scholars from Vellore should be involved in celebrations"

VELLORE: The executive committee in charge of the bicentenary celebrations of the Vellore Mutiny met here on Sunday, under the presidentship of G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of Vellore Institute of Technology. The Vellore Mutiny took place at the fort here on July 10, 1806.

M. Anandakrishnan, former vice-chancellor, Anna University, and one of the committee members appealed to scholars to provide historic facts and details regarding the Mutiny.

He said college professors and scholars from Vellore should be involved in the compilation of the history of the Mutiny.

Thanjaivanan, organiser of the celebration committee, explained the role to be played by the scholars and the public in the celebrations. Era. Sezhiyan, former MP, V.P. Narayanan, former vice-chancellor of Dr. MGR Medical University, P. Radhakrishnan, Vice-Chancellor, VIT, Charuhasan, actor, N.K. Mangala Murugesan and K.A. Manikumar, history professors, M. Ramakrishnan, Mohammed Sirajudeen and I. Mangaiyarkarasi, professors, A. Jawahar, television anchor and G.V. Selvam, former pro-chancellor of VIT participated in the meeting.
