Coca-Cola: hearing adjourned

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Thursday adjourned to October 6 the hearing on an interim application filed by Coca-Cola challenging the Pollution Control Board's order refusing to issue consent for operation of the company's bottling plant at Plachimada and the Perumatty grama panchayat's order rejecting its licence renewal application.

The petition was adjourned by the Bench comprising Justice M. Ramachandran and Justice M. N. Krishnan.

In its petition, the company sought a clarification to the effect that the plant's licence was renewed with effect from June 10, 2005 for two years as per the High Court's earlier directive.

It also pleaded that a clarification to the effect that the petitioner had the consent to operate its plant under the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act be issued.

The Bench had earlier directed the president of the Perumatty grama panchayat to renew in a week the licence for the company's plant.

MBBS admission

Justice K. Balakrishnan Nair adjourned to Friday the hearing on a writ petition filed by two candidates in the common entrance rank-list challenging the filling up of management quota in Sree Gokulam Medical College, a self-financing college at Thiruvananthapuram. According to the petitioners, 15 per cent seats had been filled up without inviting applications from the candidates.

The petitioners, Anu Cherian and one more person, sought a directive to the college authorities to fill up the management seats from the common entrance test conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, as the college was not part of the consortium formed by the self-financing medical colleges.
