CHENNAI: A Chennai-based Boeing-737 Training Captain with 19,000 flying hours to his credit has won global recognition.

The seasoned training captain of Boeing-737 aircraft, Capt. A. Ranganathan, now with private airline, Spicejet, received the Best 2005 Technical Paper presentation made by him on "Wet Runway Operations" by the International Society of Air Safety Investigators (ISASI).

He is the first Indian to receive the honour presented after a gap of 41 years. The honour was given to him by the ISASI President and Manager of the Office of the Accident Investigation of the Federal Aviation Administration, Frank Del Gandio, in Fort Worth, Texas on September 15. The 57-year-old, Capt. Ranganathan, is a product of Madras Flying Club and the core group member of the Task Force set up by the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on the Approach and Landing and Accident Reduction (ALAR) Procedure. He has compiled a training kit on behalf of the DGCA that helps commercial airline pilots to follow the safe flying procedures in adverse weather.
