Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A three-member gang entered a house in Perambur and took away 10 sovereigns of jewellery on Wednesday.

According to police, the strangers, who posed as beggars, came to the house of Vijaya, residing on Arumugam Pillai Street, Perambur. One of them in the group was holding a child and the woman approached the resident and asked her for water.

When Ms. Vijaya went to fetch water from the house, the strangers entered the room, where the bureau was kept, removed the jewellery from it. Even before the resident came out with water, the strangers escaped from the place. Police said the resident was surprised, when she came out with water. When she noticed the bureau in one of the rooms, she realised that the strangers took away the money. The woman filed a complaint with Sembium police.
