Two children die in building collapse

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Two children, eight-year-old Chaya and six-year-old Manu, were crushed to death when the balcony of an old building collapsed on them at Pantharapalya in Byatarayanapura police station limits on Thursday evening. Another person, Prasanna (23) who was injured, was shifted to a private nursing home.

Chaya and Manu were watching a street play, "Dombalaata", with many others in the locality when the incident took place. It was around 8.30 p.m. The residents of the area tried hard to save the two children trapped inside the debris but the two victims died on the spot, the police said.

While Chaya was the daughter of Munikrishna, Manu was the son of Raju. Both were residents of Pantharapalya. The bodies were taken to Bangalore Children's Hospital and later shifted to Victoria Hospital for a postmortem. Hundreds of people from the area thronged the accident spot as news spread about the accident.
