NEW DELHI: The Government on Thursday reconstituted the governing body of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS), Shimla, and appointed Planning Commission member Bhalchandra Mungekar as president of its society and chairman of the governing body in place of historian J.S. Grewal. The entire administrative structure of IIAS has been reconstituted as the term of the last team ended on April 10, 2005. The team headed by Prof. Grewal had been appointed in November last to replace the one headed by G.C. Pande in view of its non-cooperation with the enquiry ordered by the United Progressive Alliance Government into the functioning of IIAS. But at the time of making the change, the Ministry had clarified that Prof. Grewal's team would hold office only for the remaining term. While reconstituting the IIAS set-up, the Government has retained many of the members of the outgoing team .
