NEW DELHI: There is now a guide for those who want to explore the city on foot. Packing in the story of Delhi from the oldest fortification of Lal Kot to the Imperial city of the British and its concrete chaos modern avatar in just a few pages is "Delhi: A Thousand Years of Building". Written by Lucy Peck, it has all the "gyan" on monuments that dot the cityscape and is a collaboration between the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) and Roli Books. With maps, sketches and details on the building, it is a nice companion to have for those who want to take long walks in winter. Quite different from the INTACH "Delhi: The Built Heritage'', this book has chapters on the history of the city as well as on those who ruled it. Unlike the first publication by INTACH which is a through documentation of the heritage the city has left, this one is not about documentation, but draws attention to Delhi's most visitor-friendly buildings. "It is really a guide for people who come into Delhi, want to visit buildings and need background. It has been published as an INTACH Roli Guide, says the convenor of the Delhi Chapter, O.P Jain.
