KOLLAM: Kozhikode scored an upset five-wicket win over holder Malappuram and entered the final of the State senior women's cricket championship at the DB College ground, Sasthamcotta, near here on Friday. It will meet Pathanamthitta in the final.
The scores (semifinals): Malappuram 149 for three in 30 overs (E.K.Shinu 70, Mariamma 41 n.o.) lost to Kozhikode 152 for five in 29.2 overs (Anu Ashok 45), at the DB College ground, Sasthamcotta. Pathanamthitta 151 for eight in 30 overs (Suni Philip 35, Vilasini three for 2) bt Palakkad 117 in 30 overs (Vilasini 32, Suni Philip four for 21), at the Mar Thoma College ground, Thiruvalla.
Shanker wins title
At Kochi, V. Shanker (Delhi) won the singles titles in over 45 category in the RSC AITA National veterans ranking tennis tournament at the RSC sports centre here on Friday.
The results: Over 45 (final) : V. Shanker (Del) bt Srinivasa Reddy (AP) 6-3, 6-3. Semifinal: V.Shanker (Del) bt S.Sethu (TN) 6-3, 7-6; Srinvasa Reddy (AP) bt M. Suresh (AP) 6-3, 1-6, 4-0 (conceded) Doubles (Final): Settu/Vijaykumar bt Raman/Ramesh 7-5, 6-0.. Over 55 (Final): Ram Mohan (AP) bt Srikanth Parekh 6-3, 6-4. Over 55 (Doubles): S.Parekh (Mah) & Tapan Rao (AP) bt Muthu (TN)/Madan (AP) 6-1, 6-3.
