MLA seeks relief for Yanam people

PONDICHERRY: Malladi Krishna Rao, an Independent member from the lone Assembly constituency in Yanam (an enclave of the Union Territory of Pondicherry in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh), said here on Thursday that the region bore the brunt of recent cyclone and also the flood in Godavari river system. The loss caused to farmlands, cattle sheds, damage to the buildings, loss of coconut trees and also road breaches was put at Rs 4 crores. He said he had placed before the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, the extent of sufferings of the people in the region and felt that a substantial amount be released as an immediate relief as the torrential rains and also cyclone had caused extensive devastation in the region.
