BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) formally split on Friday with the faction headed by the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah "removing" Janata Dal (Secular) national President H.D. Deve Gowda, State unit President N. Thippanna and Working President H.D. Kumaraswamy from their posts. The Siddaramaiah faction appointed the former Union Minister C.M. Ibrahim as the national President and the former Minister Satish Jarkiholi as the State unit President.
`National Council' meeting
This decision was taken at a "National Council meeting" of the party here at the Palace grounds.
There was no national representative of the party present at the meeting barring Dayananda Rao, a national executive committee member of the party from Andhra Pradesh. The members of the recognised National Council of the Janata Dal (S) from Karnataka Mr. Siddaramaiah, Mr. Ibrahim, C. Narasimhappa and B.R. Patil have distanced themselves from the Deve Gowda camp. Six resolutions were adopted at the meeting and all of them were targeted at Mr. Deve Gowda for stifling the collective leadership for which the erstwhile Janata Party and the Janata Dal were known. Today's meeting accused the Deve Gowda camp of misdirecting the party over the past two years and claimed that they would put the Janata Dal (S) back on rails. There is no question of Mr Siddaramaiah joining the Congress or floating a new political party. The Janata Dal (S) is our party and we will stem the rot with the removal of Mr. Deve Gowda, is the stand adopted by the Siddaramaiah faction.
