NEW DELHI:
The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB)
Justice Vikramjit Sen directed MCD and DJB to pay Rs.3lakhs each to the family of the victim who was working as a salesman drawing a salary of Rs.4,000 per month.
Metro offer
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) of its own will has offered to pay Rs.20,000 to advocate Ashwani Kumar Gupta as a goodwill gesture since the petitioner in the matter, Raj Kumar, father of the deceased, Vikas Gupta, was economically not in a position to pay fees to the advocate.
Mr. Justice Sen directed MCD and DJB to make the payment of the compensation amount within four weeks from the date of the order. The advocate had taken up the cause of the family of the deceased without any fee.
In the petition, Raj Kumar alleged that his son had met with the accident due to negligence and acts of omission and commission on the part of DJB and MCD.
He alleged that the cover of the manhole, which the deceased had hit, was not properly placed and was below the level of the road. The deceased along with one of his colleagues was on his way back home after offering prayers at Birla Mandir.
