NEW DELHI: The total number of dengue cases in the Capital crossed 200 on Friday. With eight new cases being reported from Delhi and one from a neighbouring State on Thursday, the total number of cases has reached 217. Of these 154 are from Delhi, while 63 are from the neighbouring States. In Delhi, 147 cases have been reported from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi areas while seven have come from the New Delhi Municipal Council areas. Of the other States, there have been 20 cases from Haryana, 24 from Uttar Pradesh, and 17 from elsewhere. In the case of two cases, the patients were untraced after investigation. A release issued by the Health Department of MCD said as of Friday, 32 patients were still admitted with dengue in various hospitals. The number of dengue cases reported in Delhi this year is only next to the epidemic of 2003 when the viral had affected 298 people in Delhi and 79 from other States. However, the casualties this year have been the highest in the past four years with one resident of Delhi and three of neighbouring States dying due to dengue thus far.
