Three held with cocaine

NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a Nigerian national, were arrested on Thursday by the Special Cell on charges of dealing in cocaine. The police allegedly recovered 25 gm cocaine from their possession.

Acting on a tip-off that two cocaine suppliers would come to Yashwant Palace at Chanakyapuri, a team led by Inspector Sukhwinder Singh mounted a raid and arrested them after 10 gm of cocaine was recovered from their possession. The accused were identified as Gopal Krishan and Alok Gupta.

During interrogation, Alok allegedly disclosed that he was into cocaine trade for the past two years. According to the police, he used to procure drugs from his schoolmate, Gopal, and supply it to his clients.

The police said Gopal deals in the import of foods and is given to drugs. He used to go to parties in five start hotels where he came in contact with a Nigerian national, Calex, who supplied cocaine. He also came in contact with another Nigerian, Michael. He allegedly disclosed that this August, he met yet another Nigerian, Busari Jimoh, through a common contact named Fred, who also supplied cocaine.

At his instance, the police mounted a raid at Classic Palace in Vasant Vihar and arrested Busari. They recovered 15 gm of heroin from his possession. Busari had come to Delhi on September 28, after his visit to Mumbai where he met his accomplices, Andrew, Allaji and others. Further probe into the matter is on.

"In the next five years this hospital will be provided each and every modern medical facility so it would be helpful for poor patients," she said at a function organised to commemorate four decades of cardio-thoracic surgery at the hospital here.

"Next time when we gather for the golden jubilee of G.B. Pant Hospital, it should reach such a standard that it should be counted among world-class hospitals," she said.

Speaking on the occasion, Health Minister Yoganand Shastri said G.B. Pant Hospital has a historical importance as the country's first open heart surgery was done there and today maximum cases of Angioplasty were handled by it.
