MAKING HIS PLEA: Maruti Manpade, member of the CPI(M) State Secretariat, submitting his complaint to Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Pankajkumar Pandey in Gulbarga on Saturday.
GULBARGA: Gulbarga Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Pankajkumar Pandey on Saturday directed the Gulbarga City Corporation Commissioner to remove encroachments in a public park in Nehru Gunj by seeking the assistance of the city police. Taking a serious view of the non implementation of the directions given in last month's public grievances meeting by Deputy Commissioner Anjum Parvez to the corporation authorities, Mr. Pandey, who was presiding over this month's public grievance meeting, said the corporation should act immediately and remove encroachments. Reacting to a complaint filed by residents of Nehru Gunj that the directions issued by the Deputy Commissioner in the previous meeting have not been implemented, Mr. Pandey said that after removing the encroachments, the corporation should take steps to plant saplings and protect the area from falling prey to encroachments. Saturday's public grievance meeting saw over 45 complaints being filed by residents of different localities in the city and by villagers from Aland and other taluks in the district. Maruti Manpade, member of the CPM State Secretariat, said the water harvesting structure constructed at Ladmugli and Ambalga village in Aland taluk in 1992-93 with assistance from the Hyderabad-Karnataka Development Board, are in a dilapidated condition. The people of the villages cannot cross over the structure owing to the absence of approach roads. He demanded that the zilla panchayat take measures to construct approach roads on both sides of the water harvesting structure, apart from repairing the structure. Mr. Pandey said he will personally visit the spot and take necessary action.
School building
Villagers of Hagargundigi, in their complaint, said the petitions submitted by them in the past six meetings seeking the repair of the school building in their village and providing drinking water facility in the school, have remained unattended to. They said the school building is in a dilapidated condition and requires immediate repairs. Students have to go without drinking water in the school, they added. Mr. Pandey directed the Education Department officials present at the meeting to attend to the complaint immediately and submit a compliance report in the next meeting. Most of the complaints filed at the meeting pertained to the lack of basic amenities in different localities in Gulbarga. Residents of Revanasiddeshwar Nagar, Santosh Colony, Kotambari Layout, Prashant Nagar, Devi Nagar and Pavanganga Colony said their localities lack basic amenities such as approach roads, drainage facility and drinking water. They alleged that the corporation authorities have failed to provide streetlights in their localities. Corporation Commissioner S.B. Mudhol said the corporation will take steps to supply drinking water and install streetlights immediately. As far as the other demands are concerned, he said the corporation will have to prepare an action plan and get it approved in the general body meeting. Mr. Pandey said the corporation authorities should immediately act on the complaints and provide solace to people. Senior officials of the district administration, including Assistant Commissioner Ramesh Begar; Headquarter Assistant to the Deputy Commissioner Ravikiran Vanti; Additional Superintendent of Police P. Ravi Naik; and heads of government departments were present.
