ERODE: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will provide cellular connections "on-demand" within two months as 69 more cell towers will be erected in the district. At present, 47 cell towers are functioning in the district, said the General Manager, BSNL, Erode, E.M. Abraham, while talking to mediapersons on Saturday. He said the installation of 69 towers would be completed by December after which the services would be extended to more subscribers. At present in Erode district, 46,465 cellular connections had been provided and 14,000 were in waiting list.
The General Manager said the Student Power-99 scheme was becoming popular and more than 500 applications had been received for the scheme from the students studying in Std VIII to degree level.
Broadband service
Regarding the broadband service, he said at present 480 persons were in the waiting list and within two months all those who applied would get broadband connection. The BSNL had reduced the modem connection charges to Rs. 250.
Mr. Abraham said that the subscribers, whose telephones had been disconnected for non-payment of bills, are advised to avail the offer to pay the outstanding amounts in instalments. He requested those whose lines had been disconnected to contact the Commercial Accounts Officer (Telephone Revenue) at General Manager's office building, Gandhiji Road from October 1 to 31 to get reconnection.
