ERODE: The Male Medical Ward in Erode District Headquarters Hospital has been developed at a cost of Rs. 5 lakhs and all the wards in the hospital have connected with internal telephone lines, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P.C. Ramasamy has said. Inaugurating the voluntary blood donation programme in the GH, organised by the Public Health Department, Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society and the hospital on Saturday, he urged the public and organisations to donate blood as it helps in saving the life of a person.
45 lines
He said if a person needs the immediate attention of a particular doctor, the duty nurse can call the doctor by using the internal telephone line. The Minister said that 45 lines had been provided at a cost of Rs 1.95 lakhs. The Minister also released a booklet on blood donation.
Female ward
He said the blood bank in the Erode District Headquarters Hospital was the best in the state and its in-charge Dr. R.P. Sakthivel has been selected for the award instituted by the State Government. With the funds contributed by the MP and MLA, a 57-bed female ward was being constructed and the works would be completed soon.
Maintained well
Presiding over the function, Collector D. Karthikeyan said that the blood collected from a person could be preserved for 21 days. MLA K.S. Thennarasu said the GH was maintained on par with private nursing homes and medicines were distributed to the needy free of cost.
Bhavani MLA K.C. Karupannan, SIDCO Chairman `Sindhu' Ravichandran, Joint Director of Medical Services V. Nagarajan, Superintendent K K.A. Hussain Ali and others spoke.
Earlier, students took out a blood donation awareness rally led by the Hospital Superintendent.
