HYDERABAD: Sports Authority of India (Sec'bad) edged out a fighting AP Police 5-2 via the tie-breaker in the second semifinal of the Sports Coaching Foundation Trophy hockey tournament for seniors at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Saturday. The teams were locked one-all at the end of regulation time. It was due to a splendid effort by Satyamaheshwar Rao who had a solo run from the half-line down the centre and essayed a minus pass to the waiting Nityajayanand who in turn relayed a perfect centre to Vijay Kumar who gently deflected the ball into the goal in the 26th minute to give SAI the lead. Policemen fought back through Nooruddin. Goalkeeper Md. Javed failed to clear the ball to safety off a penalty-corner. With the teams failing to break the deadlock, the tie-breaker rule was applied in which SAI pipped Police 5-2 with Veer Singh, Md. Azharullah Khan, K. Satya Maheshwar Rao and M.R.K. Raju scoring. Only Suri Babu was successful for the loser while P. Nagender Prasad and P. Gangadhar failed.
SAI players for
national camp
Three hockey players from SAI (Secunderabad) Veer Singh, M.Bharat Kumar Raju and A.Vidyanand have been invited to join the second phase of the Indian camp (under-18) in Lucknow from October 6 as part of the preparations for the Asia Cup championship to be held later this year. T.N.Sudhir and Srinviasa Rao, both from SAI, are already in the first phase of the camp in Delhi.
BDL enters final
Bharat Dynamics Ltd entered the final of the A-Division (three-day) knock-out cricket tournament when Ensconse conceded the match after being bowled out for 325 in reply to BDL's 473 in the first innings. The scores: A-Division (three-day) knock-out: Semifinals: BDL 473 bt Ensconse 325 (Ibrahim Khaleel 80, P.S.Niranjan 48, Ahmed 60, Fahad 48, Pragyan Ojha four for 94). Ensconce conceded. SCRSA 249 and 14 for one vs Andhra Bank 248 (Rohit 76, Md.Ghouse Baba 62, Kalyan Kumar five for 70). A-Division (two-day matches): Gemini Friends 81 and 152 for seven drew with Income Tax 261 (J.Deepak Lal 86, Sujeet Parbatani seven for 32). A-Division Institutions league: Hyderabad Bottling 172 (S.Khaled Bin Mahfooz 44) bt NFC 86. B-Division: Deccan Colts 80 (Md.Khaleel four for 19) lost to XI Masters 81 for two (G.Subrahmanyam 42 not out).
CM presents cash
award to Narang
Chief Minister Dr.Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy presented a cash award of Rs. 3 lakhs to shooter Gagan Narang, who won the 10 m air rifle gold in the recent Asian championship, at the former's official chambers on Saturday. Dr.Reddy hoped that Gagan Narang would continue to bring glory to the State and the country with his consistent performances.

Executive committee of Bolarum Sporting Club and Cantonment Football Club has decided to post the eighth Bolarum Challenge Cup invitational tournament scheduled to be held from tomorrow, in view of the holy month of Ramzan commencing from October 5. Fresh dates will be announced later.
APRC (II) to meet
NDA-Navy
Andhra Pradesh Riding Club (II) defeated Hindustan Petroleum-APRC 4-3 in a well fought semifinal match of the Major General Khusro Jung Memorial Trophy polo tournament at the Bison polo ground in Hyderabad on Saturday. The architect of APRC (II)'s victory was Samir Suhag who is a plus six handicap player. Samir scored three goals while Salim Azmi scored the other one. For HP-APRC the scorers were Dhurvpal Godara (twice) and Khader Siddiqui. In the other semifinal, NDA-Navy defeated Artillery-RVC by eight goals to five. Akhil Sirohi (3), A.P. Singh and Atul Gutpa (two each) and Suman Kumar scored for the winner. For Artillery-RVC which started with an advantage of three goals, the only field goal was scored by J.S. Shekhawat in the very first chukker.
Easy for Kasturba Gandhi
Kasturba Gandhi junior college for women defeated St. Ans junior college 25-10, 25-16 in the final of the Hyderabad district's inter junior colleges volleyball championship for women at Gymkhana ground on Saturday. Madhavi, Sirisha, Shalini, Ragini, Jyithi and Uma played well for the victorious team.

Andhra defeated Rayalseema by one run in the semifinals of the Sarojini Naidu trophy women's cricket tournament organised by APWCA in Hyderabad on Saturday. The scores (semifinals): Andhra 88 for four (Savitha Kumari 35, Archana Das 30) bt Rayalseema 87 for two. APWCA 72 for six (Vanitha 31, Revathi three for 18) lost to Hyderabad 73 for four.
Krishna Rao to lead
P. Krishna Rao will lead the AP team in the 16th national kayaking and canoeing championship to be held at Roorkee (Uttaranchal) from Oct 5 to 9. The team: (Men): P.Krishna Rao (captain), Yuvraj Avinash Singh K.Anjaneyulu, S.Venkat Rao, M.Ramesh Babu, Arif Khan, M.Srinu, Y.Rajesh, P.Vishnuvardhan Reddy, P.Mithun Chakravarthy, T.Nagababu, G.Suresh, M.Balayogi and V.N. Rain spoils play
The second day's play between Visakhapatnam and South Zone-II in the final of ACA's inter-zone under-15 tournament at Visakhapatnam on Saturday could not be held due to rain.
