KOLLAM: N. Padmalochanan, CPI(M) leader and the councillor elected from the Kureepuzha South division of the Kollam Corporation, is slated to take over as the next mayor of Kollam city. His name was formally cleared on Saturday by the district committee of the CPI(M). The decision will be submitted to the CPI(M) State committee for final approval. The approval is likely to come on Sunday or latest by Monday. Following this his name will be tabled before the district level LDF committee meeting and cleared. In spite of rumours that there would be other contenders for the Kollam Mayor's post at the CPI(M) district committee meeting, except for Mr. Padmalochanan, no other name was considered for the post. Mr. Padmalochanan is the State secretary of the CITU and the senior most party man among the 27 CPI(M) councillors elected to the Kollam Corporation in the September 24 elections. A secretariat member of the CPI(M) district committee, he was also the former chairman of the Kerala State Cashew Development Corporation.
