PATHANAMTHITTA: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will increase its cellular phone connections in the Pathanamthitta Secondary Switching Area to one lakh by the end of the financial year, according to BSNL General Manager C.Sasidharan. Mr. Sasidharan, accompanied by Deputy General Manager G.Krishna Pillai, area managers Thomas Varghese and M.Raghavan Nair, and PRO P.T. Thomas, was addressing a press conference at the Pathanamthitta Press Club on Saturday forenoon. Mr. Sasidharan said that the BSNL on Saturday introduced a new mobile post-paid package, Plan-100, for Government employees and employees attached to various public sector units. "The scheme is attractive with a monthly rent of Rs. 100 and the registration fee of Rs. 500 will be debited from the first bill," he said. He said that registration for the new scheme would be open till November 30.
Capacity augmentation
He said the BSNL had completed capacity augmentation of all the 36 Base Transmitting Stations (BTS) in the SSA and 64 mobile towers would be commissioned in the current financial year itself. He said that the BSNL, which had 30,000 cellular phone subscribers at present, would be able to provide 70,000 new connections with the completion of various development projects by March next year. Mr. Sasidharan said that 13,350 applications for land phone connections were pending in the SSA and the wait list would be cleared in six months. He said that broadband internet service was now available at the exchanges at Thiruvalla, Kumbanad, Pathanamthitta, Kozhencherry, Adoor, Pandalam, Ranni and Niranom. This service would be extended to 32 places in a few months. He said that the BSNL would conduct a face-to-face programme at Adoor on October 5. Local MP Chengara Surendran would inaugurate the programme to be held at Hotel Lance Residenty at 11 a.m. Mr. Sasidharan said that the cable laying process along MC Road and the Muvattupuzha-Punalur road was progressing fast.
