BELLARY: Felicitation to senior citizens and achievers in various fields marked Senior Citizens' Day here on Saturday. The programme was jointly organised by Vishwabharati Kala Niketan and Educational Trust in association with the Department of Women and Child Welfare at Rukminamma Memorial Old Age Home. B. Sriramulu, Bellary MLA, presided over the function. Shivaraj Patil, member of the National Human Rights Commission and former judge of the Supreme Court, who was the chief guest, underlined the need for the youth to not only respect senior citizens but also give them their due in society. This, he said, will instil confidence in senior citizens and make them feel that they are needed by society, he added. We need to benefit by the experience of elders, he said. He said only a few people will set aside certain portion of their earnings to be spent for the welfare of society, and complimented the Reddy brothers for constructing the old age home to help senior citizens. Manjula Chellur, judge of the Karnataka High Court, and Janardhan Reddy, secretary of the organisation, spoke.
