ONGOLE: Progressive Organisation for Women (POW) State president V. Sandhya has exhorted the students to oppose liberalisation and globalisation policies, which would help the developed nations, exploit developing nations socially and economically. Addressing a state level conference on "Globalisation and its effects on girl students" organised by Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) here on Saturday, she said that globalisation would promote commercialisation and wreak havoc with human relations. It promotes consumerism as revealed by Fathers Day, Mothers Day, Valentine Day etc. She asked the students to understand the perilous situation brought about by globalisation and fight for their education and employment rights.
School education hit
Chittipati Venkateswarlu said that globalisation has affected school education and university education. Present education would help only multinational corporations, he felt. The Reception Committee chairperson, Rama Sundari, in her welcome address, decried commercialisation of education. She asked the students to fight against eve teasing, ragging and dowry deaths. One hundred and fifty representatives from 14 districts attended the conference.
