CPI(M) resorting to violence: Hassan

Congress workers attacked in many places

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesman M.M. Hassan, MLA, has charged the workers of the CPI(M) with resorting to violence against Congress workers in different parts of the State after the local body poll results.

In a statement here on Saturday, he said that the houses of KPCC secretary Satheesan Pacheni and DCC secretary Chacko Palakalodi were attacked in Kannur and that of the KPCC member, P.C. Radhakrishnan at Perambra. Shahyl Hammed, another leader of Kannur, was manhandled by CPI(M) workers at Payyannur. Tillenkeri panchayat member C.V. Anthru was hit on his head and injured. The party offices at Ayippuzha and Azhikode were set on fire. Ummer, leader of the party in Mayyil panchayat, and K.C. Vijayan of Chengala were seriously injured.

In Kozhikode district, Koilandy mandalam secretary Govindan was in the hospital after being beaten up by the CPI(M) workers. The workers of the party were attacked in Moodadi, Naderi and Kemancherry also. In Kavilumpara, the party office was attacked and in Ayamcherry panchayat, UDF workers suffered injuries. The party workers were beaten up in Kavissery panchayat of Palakkad district also. The UDF workers were attacked in Puthigai panchayat in Kasaragod. Attack on Congress workers were reported from Pthenvelikara, Manali, Parakadavu and Edavakkad in Ernakulam district, Chittar, Mallapally, Ullannoor and Kurichimuttam in Pathanamthitta district and Panaman, Kannanalloor and Karunagapally in Kollam district. The violence launched on polling was still continuing. Mr. Hassan said that these incidents could be viewed only as part of a bid on the part of the CPI(M) to repress the Congress workers.
