PONDICHERRY: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited will add 30 more towers in Pondicherry region to augment its capacity by the end of October. This would help the organisation to clear the 6,000 waiting lists in cellular phone connection and give coverage throughout the region, S.M. Kalavathy, General Manager, BSNL, Pondicherry SSA told reporters here on Saturday. "With the addition of 30 more towers, the Pondicherry region would have a total 53 towers and this would enable us to eliminate the waiting list for prepaid cellular connection in a months time", she further said. As of now BSNL has a customer base of 50,000 for its cellular operation in the region. "Our market share in the segment is more than 60 per cent", she claimed. As there was an overwhelming response for the broadband connections, BSNL had plans to provide the broadband service in another 6 exchanges in two months time. The service would be extended to the remaining four exchanges by the end of December, he said. The exchanges that would be covered in two months were Muthialpet, Auroville, Tiruchitrambalam, Tirubhuvanai, Villianur, Thavalakuppam. The eight exchanges, which have already in the broadband network, were in full capacity and as on date 428 people were in the waiting list, she said. Further, it would soon launch the wi-fi services and it could be accessed using laptop and pci wireless card or centrino software.
