BHOPAL: A conference of the Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled States will be convened soon to evaluate the work done for weaker sections, party president L.K. Advani said on Saturday. There would be a comprehensive assessment of the work done for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other backward classes at the meeting of the Chief Ministers of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Gujarat. They would be required to produce their performance report, particularly on the Antyodaya scheme launched by the then Rajasthan Chief Minister, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat. Mr. Advani was addressing the national convention of the Bharatiya Janata Party's Scheduled Castes Morcha organised here to coincide with the BJP silver jubilee celebrations. Similar conventions would be organised in other States. A convention would be held in Punjab this month, followed by a `Mahasangham' in Bangalore. The BJP would continue to work for the uplift of all sections without discrimination. Other parties were playing vote-bank politics and paying lip service to the Dalit cause, he said. Recalling an incident, Mr. Advani said Mahatma Gandhi, visiting a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh `shakha', was surprised to see people from different castes attending a programme without discrimination. BJP vice-president M. Venkaiah Naidu, senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi, Scheduled Castes Morcha president Ramnath Kovind, State BJP chief Shivraj Singh Chauhan and the former Chief Ministers Uma Bharti and Kailash Joshi spoke.
