Non-committal on Cabinet expansion
NEW DELHI:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was non-committal on the much-speculated expansion of his Council of Ministers on Saturday.
"Wait and watch. You will know when it happens," he told reporters at Rashtrapati Bhavan after President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam presented the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for excellence in public administration, academics and management for 2004 to former civil servant C. Srivastava.
Dr. Singh was asked whether the expansion would take place before the Congress Chief Ministers' conclave in Chandigarh this month.
Asked about the ministerial vacancies in Coal and Sports, he said, "I am the Minister for Coal and Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan is clearing the Sports Ministry files."
Recent reports have speculated on a reshuffle and expansion of Dr. Singh's Cabinet after October 3, at the end of an "inauspicious"' period in the Hindu calendar. PTI
