NAGERCOIL: : The Government has allotted Rs.8 crores to provide infrastructure to all government hospitals in Kanyakumari district in a phased manner and in the first phase, Rs.1.30 crores would be utilised for development of basic amenities in the Boothapandi Government Hospital, said Health Minister N. Thalavai Sundaram. Inaugurating a blood bank in that Government Hospital on Saturday, the Minister said that the Government was committed to provide pucca medial treatment to the poor and downtrodden. All government hospital would be provided with modern medical equipments and other facilities with the assistance from the World Bank. All headquarter hospitals had been equipped with blood bank in the State. The Minister said that Tamil Nadu stood second in setting up blood banks in the country with an intention to save the precious lives. There were 224 blood banks and 27 blood collection centres in different parts of the State. The Government has allotted Rs. 21.80 lakhs for modernisation of the Boothapandi Government Hospital, Mr. Thalavai Sundaram said, adding that similarly all headquarter hospitals throughout the State would be modernised in a phased manner with the assistance from the World Bank. In the first phase, all government hospitals in the backward districts including Theni, Pudukottai, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Kanyakumari would be provided with all modern medical equipments in order to provide pucca treatment to the people from all walks of life, the Minister added.
