THENI: : Census on small and tiny farmers in Theni district has commenced for implementation of the Farmers Protection Scheme. Financial assistance would be given to selected small and tiny farmers till death, said Collector Rajesh Lakhoni. He was addressing a mass contact programme held at Kottakudi in Bodi taluk on Wednesday. Under this scheme, women would get Rs.2,500 for delivery and Rs.1,500 for education to the children. Marriage assistance of Rs.5,000 would be given to women and Rs.3000 to men. A sum of Rs.1 lakh would be given as compensation to the family of accident victims and Rs.50,000 to the injured. Farmers aged 60 years would get Rs.200 per month. For cremation, each beneficiary would get Rs.2,500. Identity cards would be given to each identified beneficiary on completion of census, he said. A road connecting Kozhukkumalai and Kurangni hill would be re-laid at a cost of Rs.1 lakh. Group houses were constructed at a cost of Rs.10 lakhs in the village so far he said. Later, Mr. Lakhoni disbursed Rs.2.85 lakh worth welfare aid to 82 beneficiaries.
