DHARMAPURI: A total of 46 Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) towers will be installed in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts with an outlay of Rs. 41 crores, General Manager of Dharmapuri BSNL, N. Ashok Raj, said here on Saturday. There are currently 13 WLL towers with 3,500 subscribers in both the districts. The new towers will be installed within March 2006. About 6,218 WLL applications are in the waiting list.
Subscriber base
Mr. Ashok Raj said that there were currently 41 cellular towers in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts with a subscriber base of 50,000. In addition, about 18,000 persons were in the waiting list for pre-paid cards. New cards would be provided on demand. A total of 47 additional cellular towers were currently being installed in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts costing Rs. 30 crores.
High-speed connectivity
High-speed broadband connectivity (256 KBPS to 2 MBPS) was currently available at the Hosur main office, town RSU, SIPCOT 1 and 2. About 425 subscribers in Hosur alone are in the waiting list seeking broadband connectivity. Broadband facility would shortly be expanded to Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and other areas in Hosur with an outlay of Rs. 25 lakhs.
Internet service
Similarly, CLI based Accountless Internet Service and Leased Line Data Circuits facility (64 KBPS and N 64KBPS) would be opened for the benefit of subscribers. This facility would be provided in Hosur town, RSU, SIPCOT 1 and 2 with an outlay of Rs. 90 lakhs.
Cable network
He said that steps had been initiated for connecting all telephone exchanges in Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts through an Optical Cable Fibre Network. Cables were already laid for 250 kms, the General Manager said. The cable network would be expanded to 80 kms at Rs. 80 lakhs, Mr. Ashok Raj said.
