CHENNAI: Ten animals including a jaguar, two pairs of chimpanzees and an American Alligator, arrived from Singapore Zoological Gardens to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP), Vandalur, on Saturday. The animals were received under an exchange programme between the AAZP and the Singapore Zoological Gardens. Four male spotted deer, two male hog deer, three barking deer and a pair of Indian rock python, were given in exchange, said the zoo authorities. The animals arrived by a cargo flight at the Anna International Airport on Saturday morning. After the completion of clearance formalities, the animals were taken to the AAZP, said K.P.M.Perrumahl, Chief Conservator of Forests and the Zoo Director. The animals would be quarantined for over a month in the zoo hospital, said the Zoo Veterinarian, K.Senthil Kumar.

They were kept in a specially designed enclosures and loaded into the plane. An animal keeper from Singapore accompanied the chimpanzees to make them feel comfortable at the new place, said Mr. Perrumahl. Among the new arrivals are two male leopard cats and a pair of wolves. The zoo authorities said the leopard cats were an addition to their collection. The visitors would be able to see the new arrivals from mid-November.
