NEW DELHI: Bangladesh's top Opposition leader Sheikh Hasina strongly criticised the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) on Saturday for alleging the involvement of Indian groups in the August 17 bomb blasts. She said such blame could not be apportioned without investigation. Ms. Hasina, who is on a five-day visit, was answering reporters when asked about the allegations by Director-General of BDR Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. "With neighbouring countries, we always want good relationships," she said. "But this kind of statement can damage our relationship." Ms. Hasina had a 90-minute meeting with UPA chairperson and Congress president Sonia Gandhi during which she said that as chiefs of the two leading parties of the sub-continent that played dominant roles in their gaining independence, there was need to strengthen party-to-party linkages. Reiterates allegation
UNI reports from Dhaka: BDR chief Maj. Gen. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Saturday reiterated his allegation that ``some criminals from India'' were involved in the August 17 nationwide bomb explosions. Upon his return from a six-day BDR-BSF talks in New Delhi, he, however, told journalists at the Zia international airport that some Indian newspapers twisted his statement and misquoted him as saying that ``India was involved'' in the August 17 incident.
