Custodial death: CI suspended

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police department is learned to have issued orders to suspend Circle Inspector (CI) E.K. Sabu in connection with the custodial death of a 28-year-old youth at the Fort police station on Tuesday last. Earlier, the police had booked two constables on the charge of murder in connection with the youth's death.

A departmental inquiry has been ordered to find out whether there was any supervisory lapse on the part of the Circle Inspector.

Meanwhile, it is learned that the investigation in the custodial death case will be handed over to the Crime Branch. One more police constable attached to the Fort station is likely to be questioned in connection with the case. Efforts are on to arrest the constables named as accused in the murder case.
