COIMBATORE: The written test for recruitment of Grade II constables, cancelled twice earlier following leakage of question paper, was held at the Police Recruit School grounds on Saturday amidst tight security arrangement. The police made tight security arrangements both for guarding the question paper as well as to prevent malpractices. The test was held at Coimbatore for candidates hailing from Coimbatore City, Rural District, Erode and The Nilgiris District. Of the total of 3,555 candidates (3,672 were men and 883 were women) for whom call letters had been sent only 3,431 (80 men and 44 women abstained) turned up for the test.
Unprecedented security
Unprecedented security cover was made at the exam venue under the supervision of the Inspector-General of Police, West Zone, A. Subramanian, Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City Karan Singha, the DIG of Police, Coimbatore Range, M.N. Manjunatha, the Superintendent of Police, Erode District, P. Nagarajan and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Armed Reserve, Balakrishnan.
Candidates monitored
The entire PRS ground was kept out-of-bounds for every one other than the candidates and men on security duty. A speed dome camera with a capacity to maintain vigil at 90 degree covering the length and breadth of the exam ground was fitted on the wireless transmitter tower to monitor the candidates through close circuit TVs to prevent incidents of malpractice like copying.
Two exams
The candidates took two exams. The first exam from 8.30 a.m. to 9.20 a.m. was on General Knowledge and the second paper from 10 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. was on psychology. Five candidates who turned-up late were refused permission, police said.
Heat
A few of the women candidates could not bear the scorching heat. The answer papers were kept in a safe-vault and were taken from the examination venue with an armed police escort and are likely to be sent to Chennai either by Sunday or Monday.
