DUTA chief elected to another teachers' body

NEW DELHI: Hindi Reader and Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) president Amar Deo Sharma was elected president of the Federation of Central Universities Teachers' Association (FEDCUTA) at a meeting held on Saturday.

While Mizoram University's Lalrintluanga and Nagaland University's Rosemary Dzuvichu have been elected vice-presidents, Jamia's Rizwan Qaiser has been elected secretary. Assam University's Samira Behera will take over the post of joint secretary, while Jamia's Tabrez Alam Khan is the new treasurer.

Share fraud

NEW DELHI: Two persons, who had allegedly sold shares of Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) worth Rs. 6.15 lakhs by using the online user identity and password of a share broker firm, have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi police. One of the accused had installed the software used by the company which was registered with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in online trading of shares.

According to the police, Subhash Chander Chugh of M/S Chugh Securities in Malviya Nagar had lodged a complaint with the EOW saying that on June 27 somebody sold 5,500 shares of BEL, which was with them, using the online trading system.

Investigations by the Intellectual Property Rights and Cyber Crimes Sections of the EOW revealed that the user ID and password of M/S Savvy Share Traders, a Dwarka based firm which was also a client of M/S Chugh Securities, had been used in the transaction. But the police found out that the entire system of M/S Savvy Traders was down due to hardware failure since June 24. The transaction had taken place on June 27.

Senior citizens' day

NEW DELHI : The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) celebrated International Day of older persons at `Sandhya', a senior citizens' home at Netaji Nagar.

Inaugurating the celebration, NDMC Chairperson Sindhushree Khullar said: "`In today's changing circumstances and atmosphere the elderly have to often stay alone when children after growing up have left their homes for availing advanced opportunity or to spend luxurious life.''

On the occasion, HelpAge India launched month-long celebrations for the aged. The group organised a `Walkathon' with 2,500 participants. At another ceremony, Meira Kumar, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, presented HelpAge's annual awards.

Sex racket busted

NEW DELHI: An alleged high- profile pimp, who was said to be a trusted lieutenant of notorious pimp Kamaljit, has been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police. Two alleged call girls have also been arrested.

According to the police, Kamaljit, who was arrested earlier this year, had disclosed during interrogation that Vimal Thapa was one of his most trusted men and that he took care of the "operations" in his absence. The police were looking for Vimal since then.

On Friday, a Crime Branch team had fixed a deal with a pimp who was supposed to meet with the decoy customer near Sartaz Hotel on Aurobindo Marg in South Delhi. The police arrested the alleged pimp, who turned out to be none other than Vimal. He was operating under an assumed name. At his instance, two call girls were also arrested.
