JD(S) to expel Siddaramaiah, Ibrahim

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Janata Dal (Secular) is all set to expel former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and former Union Minister C.M. Ibrahim for continuing to indulge in "anti-party'' activities. Mr. Siddramaiah and Mr. Ibrahim convened a meeting in Bangalore on Friday after their suspension from the party.

Kunwar Danish Ali, Janata Dal (S) General Secretary and spokesperson, said the Central office of the party has received a letter on the meeting from N. Thippanna, President of the State unit of the party.

Meeting illegal

He said that the meeting was convened illegally and unconstitutionally, and the Janata Dal (S) has decided to refer the matter to its Central disciplinary action committee.

Since Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Ibrahim have already been suspended, expulsion is the only possible course of action, he added.

"The behaviour of the two members is further damaging the image of the party. It has created confusion among party workers. The anti-party activities of Mr. Siddramaiah and Mr. Ibrahim, even after suspension, attract disciplinary action," Mr. Ali said.

Suspended

He said President of the Janata Dal (S) and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has suspended Dayanand Rao, member of the National Executive Committee of the party from Andhra Pradesh, for violating party discipline by attending the meeting convened by Mr. Siddaramaiah. and Mr. Ibrahim.
