HYDERABAD: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has come out with a six-point agenda for Mayors and Chairpersons of all civic bodies to strengthen the institutions. Dr. Reddy, in an open letter to the newly-elected civic heads, reiterated the Government's commitment to strengthen local bodies and usher in local self-governance. He hoped that the chiefs would develop the civic bodies as a role model to others.
Decision-making
Urging the civic chiefs to discharge their duties with a sense of sensitivity to people, commitment and sincerity, he exhorted them to involve local community in decision-making and execute works as per their needs. He wanted them to identify loopholes in the existing service delivery system and take steps to plug them. Dr. Reddy said civic chiefs should take street/house as a unit for the purpose of planning developmental programmes. He advised them to actively participate in the World Bank-aided projects and Rajiv Nagara Baata programme.
Drinking water
The Chief Minister made a special mention of the Government's goal to ensure round-the-clock supply of drinking water in a majority of the towns in the coming three years.
