VIJAYAWADAGUNTUR: The Vijayawada City Congress Committee on Sunday paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 136th birth anniversary and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri on his 101st birth anniversary, at a function held at Andhra Ratna Bhavan. City Congress president Pyla Somi Naidu led others in paying the tributes Senior co-chairman of OBC Department of APCC Ilapuram Venkaiah, APCC coordinator K.S. Santosh and others attended. Mr. Naidu said that the Mahatma was a man of great human values. Gandhiji's crusade against caste system and uplift of downtrodden were particularly inspiring, he felt. APCC secretary Bonda Srinivasa Rao paid tributes to the Mahatma on the VMC premises and assured the agitating Anganwadi women that their demands would be taken up with the Government.At Vinnukotavari chowk, the Arya Vysya Sangham organised poor-feeding.
Statue unveiled
VIJAYAWADAGUNTUR: The Acharya Nagarjuna University proposes to set up a centre for Gandhian studies on the campus, while Chairman of Andhra Pradesh State Council for Higher Education KC Reddy unveiled an 8-foot bronze statue on the campus. University Vice-Chancellor V. Balamohandas spoke.
